REIGNING GP2 Series champion Timo Glock has been officially named as Ralf Schumacher’s replacement at Formula One team Toyota.

The 25-year-old German, who won this year’s GP2 - Formula One’s feeder championship - has signed a contract lasting “several years”, Toyota announced, without going into details.

“It’s very satisfying to return to F1, I’ve worked hard these last few years to get this opportunity,” Glock said in a statement issued from Toyota’s Cologne headquarters.

He will be racing alongside Italian Jarno Trulli.

Glock is not a complete rookie to F1 as he replaced Italian Giorgio Pantano for four races when he was a test driver for Jordan in 2004, joining a small group of drivers to have scored points on their race debut when he finished seventh at the 2004 Canadian Grand Prix.

Schumacher parted company with Toyota in October when his three-year contract expired after coming in 16th in the drivers’ championship, his worst finish since his debut in 1997.
